TENUTA
"IL CORNO" - San
Casciano Val di Pesa (Fi)
One of Val di Pesa's best Estates, was built by an ancient Florentine family,
"Del Corno", in 12th Century. The family dedicated
themselves with dilligence and love to enhancing the country environment to such
an extent, that they left a real "agronomical park".
During the first thousand years within the Estate some of the most
interesting and typical Tuscan varieties of grapes were selected, such as the
"Colorino del Corno" and of the olive trees ("Leccino del Corno"), these in time
developing characteristics unique to the Tenuta Il Corno.
In 1523 the Estate became part of the family of properties owned by the
family Strozzi which owing to the proximity it had with Florence - capital of
the "Granducato di Toscana" and the charming Chiantishire rim - became their
summer house, growing in acclaim.
Since 1911 the owners are the Counts Frova Arroni from Arrone, who have
continued to develop with love and determination oil and wine production,
implementing high technology in the production process (always with an eye fixed
firmly at the traditional methods of production handed down through the
generations)
The Estate today stretches for some 210 hectares, 80 of which are used for
vineyards and others containing some 10.000 olive trees.
In the centre of the Estate stands Villa Il Corno, a typical Renaissance
building; of the former magnificent castle only the embattled tower remains,
overlooking with elegance all the valleys around.
It is with thanks that the present owners look back as today it is the
original genetic heritage found in the wines and olive oils that makes the
Tenuta Il Corno so revered and from which, year after year come some of the
finest wines and oils in the region.
