MARTIN ULRICH SENN
Born in Thalwil near Zurich, Switzerland, Martin Ulrich
Senn grew up in Bern where his father, Kurt Wolfgang Senn
was organ professor and organist of the town's Cathedral.
At the age of 12, MUS began studying the flute,
then continued his studies with Andre Jaunet in Zurich,
Gareth Morris in London and Aurele Nicolet in Berlin.
In 1961 Martin Ulrich Senn was appointed Solo-Flutist
of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Berlin), which
became the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester (DSO) Berlin
in 1990 with the unification of Germany. Mr. Senn
performed during the tenure of its conductors that included
Ferenc Fricsay, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly and Vladimir
Ashkenasy. Mr. Senn retired from the orchestra in
1997.
During his long career, Martin Ulrich Senn
was also active both as soloist and chamber musician.
In addition to his long tenure with the Gruppe Neue Musik
in Berlin, Martin Ulrich Senn also performed regularly
with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra as well as the Lucerne
Festival Orchestra
Martin Ulrich Senn was a professor for flute at the Hochschule
der Kuenste Berlin during most of his time in Berlin.
He is now enjoying an active retirement in Tuscany. |
