GWENDOLYN MASIN
Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 27 year old Gwendolyn began her violin studies at the age of five and after just one year, gave her first concert in the Ferenc Liszt Akademia in Budapest. Aged 11, Gwendolyn appeared on the Late Late Show in Ireland and since then has been a regular guest on TV and radio shows in various countries.
Gwendolyn has studied in the classes of her mother, Maria Kelemen, her father, Ronald Masin, Herman Krebbers, Igor Ozim, Ana Chumachenco and Zakhar Bron and currently studies with Shmuel Ashkenasi in Lübeck, Germany.
She has received first prizes in numerous competitions, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, in South Africa, the Netherlands, Ireland and Switzerland and has been nominated for awards such as "The Outstanding Young Persons Award" of Switzerland.
Gwendolyn has performed extensively in Europe and South Africa and has played as a soloist with orchestras which include the Bernese Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra (Irish radio and television orchestra), the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland with whom she recorded for live radio, the Hibernian Orchestra of Ireland, the Saint Petersburg Academia Symphony Orchestra, the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra of Moscow, the Savaria Orchestra of Hungary and the Young European Strings Chamber Orchestra.
She has performed at festivals such as the West Cork International Chamber Music Festival in Ireland, Prussia Cove in England, the Encuentro Santander festival in Spain, the Ars Longa festival in Moscow, Russia, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival in the Netherlands.
Devoted to the performance of contemporary music, Gwendolyn Masin has premiered various works, many of which have been dedicated to her and will give the first performance of a violin concerto, composed by John Buckley, in 2007.
She was the featured artist on the soundtrack, written by Don Li, to Franticek Klossner's film "Localisation", which was shown in Switzerland in 2004. Furthermore, she is artistic director of the interdisciplinary In Search of Lost Time festival and the cofounder of the "Chamber Music Festival Hohenstaufen" in Stuttgart, Germany.
Gwendolyn's first book, entitled "Michaela's Music House", which will be co-published by Müller und Schade and the European String Teachers' Association, will be available throughout Europe and America in December 2006.
